It was a fierce but friendly competition on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at HADCO, the Viking Center The enthusiastic audience (it was a sold out event) were cheering on the talented chefs.Arturo Franco-Camacho of Tacuba, Waterhouse and Seawich Sandwich Shop; Ben Gaffney of Atticus Bookstore Cafe; and Prasad Chirnomula of Thali, Thali Too and Oaxaca Kitchen were all past winners of Iron Chef Elm City. The chefs had to use year’s “secret ingredient” which was Holly’s Oatmeal, in their appetizer, entree and dessert. The Elm City Market provided the pantry for the chefs.For more on the event and recipes using the “secret ingredient, “check out my column in the May 8 New Haven Register.

Gateway Community College culinary arts and hospitality management students assisted at the the competition. Proceeds from the event provide scholarships for culinary arts and hospitality management students.
